In a significant success against ISI’s nefarious plans to carry out a terror attack in the national capital, the intelligence agencies unearthed and destroyed a dangerous spy network through a secret operation that lasted three months.

Two highly trained people, including Ansarul Miya Ansari, a Pakistani spy, were arrested during the covert operation. Ansari was given the job of providing sensitive information about the Indian armed forces to his handlers in Pakistan.

The investigation also raises suspicion about some staffers of the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi. ISI officers Muzammil and Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, who had been trying to influence Indian YouTubers and social media influencers, were also believed to be involved in the plan.

How Was This Covert Operation Executed?

The operation began as the intelligence agencies received inputs in January that Pakistan’s ISI had dispatched its spy to gather sensitive Indian documents, pictures, and Google coordinates. He was tipped off to arrive in the national capital via the Nepal route.

The cops then received inputs that revealed a Pakistani plot to attack Delhi, for which classified information about the armed forces had to be fetched.

The intelligence officials couldn’t make much progress in the case until mid-February. Ansari had already arrived in Delhi and collected sensitive military documents.

It was on February 15 when the spy was arrested in central Delhi, from whom sensitive documents were recovered while he was on his way back to Pakistan via the same route, i.e., through Nepal.

Sources told that the covert operation was a textbook example of expert spy work as the agency officials stayed ahead of the Pakistani operative at all times.

Sources further said that the Indian agencies were gathering information on the terror groups supported and sponsored by Pakistan and are active in India. The agencies suspected a larger plan to attack north-western India after grenade attacks took place outside police stations in Punjab by ISI-backed group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).

Ranchi Man Arrested For Providing Support To ISI Spy

The agencies took proactive steps to thwart any planning by Pakistan to execute a terror attack in Delhi-NCR, and activated their sources, which led to the revelation of Ansari’s travel plans to India.

After his arrest, Ansari was handed over to the police, who registered a case under the Official Secrets Act for possessing and attempting to pass on confidential documents about the Indian Armed Forces to his Pakistani handlers.

A Ranchi-based Indian citizen, identified as Akhlaque Azam, was also arrested in March for providing logistic support to the Pakistani spy. Both of them were in communication with their handlers in Pakistan.

Both of them have been locked up in high-security wing of Tihar jail and the officials are keeping a special watch on them to ensure that they do not attempt to brainwash other prisoners.

An analysis of their mobile phones revealed suspicious conversations between the two arrested suspects and their Pakistani handlers, pointing to a larger plot. A few days ago, a chargesheet was filed in court against the duo, while the investigation continues to track down others who may be linked to the conspiracy.
