Ayurveda prescribes different foods for each season to help maintain the body’s balance and overall health. As the ancient medical system of India, Ayurveda not only teaches what to eat but also highlights which food combinations should be avoided.
According to Ayurvedic principles, certain combinations can disrupt digestion and lead to the accumulation of toxins in the body. Over time, these imbalances can result in various health issues and diseases. It is, therefore, important to be mindful of such combinations.

Milk And Fruits
According to a report in The Times of India, the combination of milk and fruits is considered harmful in Ayurveda. While smoothies made from milk and fruits are trendy today, Ayurveda advises against consuming these together. This is because milk is naturally cold and heavy, while many fruits are sweet and acidic. When eaten together, this combination weakens the digestive fire (Agni), which can lead to indigestion, gas, phlegm build-up, and toxin accumulation. Long-term consumption may also lead to skin disorders and respiratory issues.
Honey With Hot Water or Milk
It is also not advisable to consume honey with hot water or hot milk. Although honey, hot water, and milk each have individual health benefits, mixing honey with hot substances is believed to have toxic effects in Ayurveda. Heating honey or combining it with hot liquids transforms it into a harmful substance. Therefore, honey should never be cooked or mixed with hot ingredients.
Ghee And Honey
Ghee and honey are both revered in Ayurveda for their medicinal properties. However, consuming them together in equal proportions is discouraged. This is because honey has a heating effect, while ghee is cooling. Taken together in equal measure, they can form toxic compounds and disturb digestion. That said, ghee and honey can be safely used in unequal proportions and are indeed found in many Ayurvedic formulations.
Milk With Chicken Or Fish
Ayurveda also advises against consuming milk with chicken or fish. Milk is considered cooling, whereas chicken and fish are heating in nature. This thermal contrast can confuse the digestive system and generate toxins in the body. The resulting imbalance can lead to skin conditions such as eczema, fungal infections, or psoriasis. It is recommended that milk be consumed only several hours after eating chicken or fish.
Water And Fruits
Drinking water immediately after consuming fruits is another practice discouraged by Ayurveda. Fruits are best eaten on an empty stomach in the morning or at least 30 minutes before or after meals. Fruits digest quickly, whereas other foods—such as grains, proteins, and dairy—take longer to break down. Consuming water or other foods too soon after eating fruit can cause the fruit to ferment in the stomach, leading to gas, bloating, and indigestion. This not only hampers digestion but also reduces nutrient absorption.
