According to police sources, the trailer approached at high speed and deliberately rammed into the RTO inspector, severely damaging his official vehicle in the process.

The Mandana Police Station has registered a case against the driver under multiple charges, including murder and obstruction of government work.

A routine vehicle inspection turned fatal on Saturday afternoon when an enraged truck driver allegedly crushed an RTO inspector to death on National Highway 52, near Gopalpura village in the Mandana police station area of Kota, Rajasthan. The accused, Bhagchand Gurjar, was arrested on Sunday following an intense manhunt that ended in the dense forested outskirts of the region.

The deceased, Naresh Kumar, an inspector with the Regional Transport Office (RTO), had reportedly issued a challan (fine) to Gurjar’s trailer involved in the incident just moments before he was run over. The incident occurred while Kumar and his team were conducting checks along the busy Kota-Jhalawar stretch of the highway.

According to police sources, the trailer approached at high speed and deliberately rammed into the RTO inspector, severely damaging his official vehicle in the process. Devendra, a Bolero driver present at the spot, was also injured and taken to a local hospital.

Ispector Kumar was rushed to the hospital by Mandana police personnel but was declared dead upon arrival. The driver of the trailer fled the scene, prompting the police to launch a search operation.

According to police, Gurjar, who hails from Sarwad village in Ajmer, was apprehended after evading capture for several hours in the forests near Kaliakhedi, Dobla, Shivpura, and Naya Gaon. The operation followed widespread outrage among transport department employees, who boycotted work on Sunday in protest of the killing and to demand swift action against the perpetrator.

As tensions mounted, the police launched an urgent search for Gurjar, eventually tracking him down to a forested area. The suspect was reportedly injured while fleeing on foot and was subsequently admitted to a local hospital under police custody. The police have placed him under strict security, anticipating possible unrest.

The Mandana Police Station has registered a case against Gurjar under multiple charges, including murder and obstruction of government work. The trailer used in the crime has also been seized as part of the investigation.

Senior administration figures, including Kota Rural Superintendent of Police Sujit Shankar and District Collector Dr Ravindra Goswami, visited the scene and later met with agitated transport staff, who expressed serious concerns over the safety of officers deployed on roadside duty.

“We will not tolerate violence against government officials performing their duty. A case of murder is being registered, and the accused will face strict legal action,” said a senior police official at the site.

Back at the hospital, scenes of grief unfolded as Kumar’s family arrived, devastated by the news. The inspector’s body has been kept in the mortuary for post-mortem examination.
