A wedding in Hamidpur village, situated within the Mughalsarai Kotwali area of Uttar Pradesh, turned violent on Saturday night when a local youth, reportedly angered over not being served paneer, drove a minibus into the wedding mandap. The shocking incident left five individuals injured, three of whom, including the groom’s father and the bride’s uncle, are in critical condition and receiving treatment at the trauma centre in Varanasi.
The wedding ceremony, which was briefly halted, resumed and was completed on Sunday with the help of police and local residents.

The wedding procession, led by Rajnath Yadav from Pahadi village in the Manduadih police station area of Varanasi, had arrived in Hamidpur on Saturday. During the wedding feast, a young man from the village reportedly demanded more paneer. A dispute broke out when the bride’s father struck him on the head with a ladle. In retaliation, the enraged youth drove a minibus at high speed through the mandap area, injuring five people who were dining at the time.
Three of the injured, including the groom’s father and the bride’s uncle, remain in a critical condition. They were swiftly taken to the trauma centre in Varanasi for urgent medical attention. The wedding was temporarily disrupted but resumed the following morning after police intervened and helped calm tensions.
Police Response
Circle Officer of Mughalsarai Rajiv Sisodia confirmed the details of the altercation. “A young man from the village attended the wedding feast and a dispute arose over food. In a fit of rage, he drove a minibus into the mandap, injuring five people,” he said.
The accused fled the scene with the vehicle and is currently absconding. Authorities have launched a search operation and are working to apprehend him at the earliest.
