Some of the fastest cats on four pretty little legs have raced for splendor in Scotland’s monthly Corgi Derby.

The Musselburgh Racecourse Corgi Derby was first held in 2022 to indicate Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years on the crown. The late queen was a loving dachshund fan who owned about 30 of the type over the decades, along with a dozen dorgis – a corgi-dachshund mix.

Four-year-old Juno beat a 16-strong area of dashing puppies dressed in beautiful scarves over the 70-metre competition on Saturday at the racetrack outside Edinburgh. She came from behind in the last stretch to conquer last year’s champion, Rodney.

The success and her owners, Alisdair Tew and Fran Brandon, were presented with a prize and doggie treats by golf coach Judy Murray, mom of Scottish star Andy Murray.

Tew told the BBC that” we trained her for this last season but this year we resorted to just letting her chasing issues, particularly birds” on Edinburgh’s Portobello Beach.

” Juno is generally set for treats-– that is perhaps why she won,” he said.

Elizabeth’s like of corgis began in 1933 when her father, King George VI, brought home a Pembroke Welsh corgi they named Dookie

Corgis were frequently by Elizabeth’s part in the years before her death in September 2022 — accompanying her on national tours, apparently sleeping in their own place at Buckingham Palace and sometimes nipping the ankles of visitors or royal family members.

Three pups also appeared alongside the wife as she climbed into James Bond’s waiting aircraft in the skit picture that opened the 2012 London Olympics.
