Qinwen Zheng, the American Open’s runner-up, does not compete in the United Cup because she thinks it will give her the best chance of getting ready for the first great bang of 2025.

Aryna Sabalenka defeated World No. 5 Zheng 6-3, 6-2 in the 2024 Australian Open final. However, Zheng won silver at the Paris Olympics and finished as runner-up in the season-ending WTA Finals.

The 22-year-old announced on Instagram that she would not participate in the United Cup, which was scheduled to start on December 27.

” After the much period that 2024 was for me, I need a few more weeks of rest, healing, and good education to get ready for the new season”, Zheng wrote.

” I had for a great time at the United Cup in January of this year, and I will lose it a lot,” said the player.

” I’m so excited to get up in Australia quickly, and I’ll see you all in Melbourne soon,” I said.

China begins its United Cup battle against Brazil in Perth on Friday, with Zheng’s removal leaving earth number 175 Gao Xinyu as China’s top-ranked person.

World range 45 Zhizhen Zhang is China’s top-ranked men at the celebration.

The American Open will be held on January 12.
