An eight-year-old girl, who went missing from her house on Monday evening, was found murdered in Delhi’s army cantonment area on Tuesday.
According to police, the girl was allegedly strangled by a teenager living in her neighbourhood in south-west Delhi’s Vasant Vihar after she resisted a rape bid.
The body of the girl was found with a noose around her neck in a vacant house in Shankar Vihar Military Station on Tuesday morning, news agency PTI quoted police as saying.

The officials identified the accused as a 19-year-old boy from the same neighbourhood. He was traced with the help of CCTV cameras on the campus and was arrested.
“During interrogation, the accused revealed that he lured the victim, who used to call him brother, to an isolated house in the locality and tried to force himself on her. When she resisted, he strangled her,” an official told PTI.
In a bid to mislead police, the accused tied a scarf around the minor girl’s neck and tried to pass it off as a case of suicide.
Police said that around 1 am, the victim’s parents called the local police. Around 8 am, the body of the girl was discovered by the locals and the cops.
Family members and local residents staged a protest on the main road near Shankar Vihar, demanding justice for the victim and her family.
The outraged residents voiced concerns about the safety of their children within the Army campus and even attempted to block traffic but were eventually calmed after receiving assurances of action from the local police.
A case of kidnapping was registered earlier in the day, but an official said that charges of murder will also be pressed against the accused.
Meanwhile, the local military authorities have assured full cooperation with the police, who are conducting investigation to uncover the exact motive behind the crime.
Additionally, the Army have pledged support to the bereaved family during this challenging time. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving family,” stated a spokesperson for the military station.
“We remain in constant communication with them to provide any assistance they may require,” the spokesperson said.
